Today undergraduate researchers Will Mancini and Ping Zhu presented their work on "Identifying and Quantifying the Stability of Hyperstable Proteins of Sesame Seeds for Allergen Studies" at the ACS Eastern New York ACS Undergraduate Research Symposium. Will presented an oral presentation and Ping presented at the poster session.Isha and Evelyn traveled to this year's American Chemical Society Spring Meeting in Indianapolis, IN! They participated in workshops, seminars, and networking events and also presented their own research at the Graduate Student Symposium. Isha gave an oral talk on "Identification and Analysis of Hyperstable Proteins in Mushrooms for Applications in Mycoremediation and Allergenicity" and Evelyn spoke about her research on "Expanding beyond SDS-based probes to investigate kinetically stable proteins".
Welcome back to campus! The Colón lab had an eventful summer with many work and research updates:
The Colón Lab welcomes Isha Shah to the group! Isha is a second year graduate student in the Chemistry department who recently graduated from Albright College with a B.S. in Biochemistry.Christian Franquiz attended the 13th Annual ENY-ACS Undergraduate Research Symposium where he presented a poster and oral presentation on "Identifying hyperstable proteins in tree nuts: Searching for insight into their allergenicity".Congratulations to JP Rubet! JP successfully attained his M.S. in Chemistry with his thesis on the application of D2D SDS-PAGE to the identification of KSPs in tree nuts.
Congratulations to two members of the Colón Laboratory who graduated this spring! Jane Thibeault successfully defended her Ph.D. degree in Biochemistry & Biophysics, and recently began working with the Institute for Systems Biology in Seattle, Washington.
Jess Patrick graduated with her B.S. in Chemistry and will be attending MIT for her Ph.D. in Chemistry in the fall. Congratulations Dr. Jane and Jess! The Colón Laboratory wanted to say a belated congratulations to three of our members who have successfully defended their Ph.D. degrees in the past year! Jennifer Church, Jayeeta Sen, and Hannah Trasatti all walked at the RPI Commencement Ceremony this spring and recently started jobs in industry. Congratulations Doctors!
Lab member Hannah just returned from U.S. HUPO conference in Boston, MA. The conference was held at the Westin Boston Waterfront from March 13-16th. While at the conference, Hannah presented a poster highlighting her work identifying kinetically stable proteins and complexes in human plasma (see below), and gave a two minute "lightning talk" on the main stage.
Hannah also took a short course entitled "Stable and Transient Protein-Protein Interactions taught be Ileana Cristea from Princeton University and Alexey Nesvizhskii from University of Michigan. |
